So....college is what has happened in the mere blink of an eye (or so it seems that way).
Its funny how if a short 4 years ago someone would've told me this is where I was going to be in June 2009, I would've laughed hysterically. I would've laughed because I never would have thought my life could have gotten any better and any more confusing.
Better in that I have met some of the most wonderful people and grown so much as an individual. When I first came to Carolina, I think I was about as open minded as the pit preacher. Being gay or different was unacceptable and country was the best type of music the ear could hear. Needless to say I now disagree with this previous sentence-not entirely. Everyone has his or her own beliefs and ways of life and if its not bothering you--you shouldn't worry about it. My freshman roommate brought this to my attention. "Ashley, you get drunk when you go out right?" "Yes, duh" was my response trying to be the "cool, college freshman" I OBVIOUSLY was...hahaha. "Well, technically that isn't morally correct neither--so you probably shouldn't be judging people when are not being a moral goddess yourself." WOWZERS! At first I thought, what a bitch....and then I realized she was completely correct! And as for the country music thing....I still enjoy listening to good ol kenny and george but theres something about the new dmb cd and katy perry that makes me want to listen to their songs non stop.
Highlights of my College Career thus far:
1) Living on my own, granville days--agora!
2) Meeting people outside of Hickory
3) First week of College, frattin' hard.. first trip to time out & last trip to time out--hah
4) Meeting some of my best friends who have taught me a lot...(Savannah & George)
5) Learning that its okay to be different
6) Carolina Cup :)
7) Tailgating
8) Learning to love Carolina Basketball and rushing Franklin Street, 09 National Champs! woo hoo!
9) Learning that Bs and Cs are okay.
10) Hating Tri Delt at first and now loving it! cocktails, mixers, & all that mess..
11) Greece Study Abroad Trip 2008--so cliche but def. a life changing experience!
12) Learning to let go & grow up gracefully (mom & dad won't and can't be there all the time)--although it was mostly rather clumsy!
My life is confusing in that.....if I hadn't already stated this I AM A SENIOR IN COLLEGE. I have gone from "OMG, where is the party tonight?" to "OMG, when do I need to take the GRE?" Funny how quickly and drastically the urgent question of the day changes...The real world is about to open up her fist and slap me across the face! andddd I have NO IDEA what I want to do with my life. The whole "don't worry about it, you have plenty of time to figure it out" is bull shit...pardon my language but it is. You need to know exactly what you want to do because college goes by SO quickly and before you know like a mama bird she is kicking you out of the nest and setting you free into the blue, clear sky aka the job hunting, bill paying life. Not that I first hand know this already, but after seeing my brother and sister and now seeing my two summer roommates, who just recently graduated, dealing with all this...I am starting to get a pretty good idea of just how badly it sucks.
Okay, I think I have done enough "blogging" and procrastinating for now....its time to actually study for my genetics final tomorrow am.... yep, I am in summer school ALL summer while all my favorite people are off in other cities and/or countries!
ciao xoxo!
